If I were a fountain

If I were a fountain,
My daily task is to swallow and spit.
I would no longer worry about hygiene,
Someone keeps me clean.

Unlike clouds, often broken by aeroplanes,
Unlike wind, always kissing the blighters,
Unlike animals, being hunted and kept in captivity
Unlike plants, needing energy for photosynthesis,
I am self-sufficient.
Unlike rivers, facing dryout and floods at any time, the unpredictable climate often hits on me,
I have a great sense of rhythm, often with music and lights.
Unlike stones, being trampled underfoot,
I always give inexplicable enjoyment.
And unlike humans who think of suicide three times a day,
I am not busy with thinking.
I, with luck, can make rainbows,
Or, like Manneken Pis, douse the intruder’s fuse.
